At our weekly meeting on October 14, 2016, President Elect Amanda Tietze once again led the meeting in place of a travelling President Craig. President Elect Amanda welcomed the members and guests to the meeting, and then asked everyone to keep in their thoughts and prayers Gary Zink, who is battling pancreatic cancer and Rotarian Dean Wallace, who just underwent knee surgery.
 
Rotarian Chad Minor provided the invocation.
 
Vice President Michelle Mullaly then welcomed the following guests to the meeting:  Contance Winther (guest and wife of Bob Winther); Lindsey Loftus (guest of Dick Nicely); Annetta Rojek (guest and wife of Mark Rojek); Barb Mucci (guest of Michelle Mullaly).
 
The "Happy Bucks" news was then provided by the following:
  • Bruce Hale - he updated the members on the upcoming New Member Project taking place next Saturday, October 22.  This project is to put in smoke detectors.  He stated he is in need of volunteers and to contact him if you are willing to help;

  • Kim Kroh - Added to Bruce Hale's comment by stating the volunteers who would be installing the smoke detectors would be meeting at the Red Cross at 9:30 a.m. to head to the NE end of Canton.  She then stated a press release will go out next week;
  •  
  • Adrian Allison - gave a happy buck and stated "this is not a Beat Glenoak" statement, but was giving a happy buck for his head football coach, Dan Reardon, for what he does off the field.  The McKinley football team had asked the coach if they could wear pink to support breast cancer awareness.  They also wanted to do a t-shirt fundraiser and donate the proceeds to help that worthy cause;

  • Bruce Schorsten - GO TRIBE! and their quest to reach and win the World Series.
President Elect Amanda then reminded everyone that the Charitable Fund letters had been mailed. She stated this is the largest fundraiser of the Charitable Fund.  The funds will go to support local projects and missions.  She asks that every Rotarian contribute at some level, so that Canton Rotary can continue to support and be relevant in our community.
 
Everyone is being asked to contact the Rotary office if you are planning on attending the Canton/Massillon Joint Rally meeting which is being held in Massillon this year.  We will need your RSVP no later than Friday, October 21st! President Elect Amanda informed everyone of the upcoming Health Screen and Wellness Fair taking place November 12, 2016 between the hours of 7 am - 11 am.  This event will once again take place at Mercy Medical Center.
 
The Rotary office was just recently informed of an upcoming meeting to be held by the Stark County Recorder taking place on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. This meeting will cover the new Ohio Veteran Identification Card.  PE Amanda stated if you were interested in attending this meeting, you must contact the Stark County Recorder's Office no later than today (10/14) to reserve your spot. She stated there were flyers on the tables with details and contact information for anyone interested.
 
PDG/PP Dave Ewing once again made an announcement regarding PolioPlus.  Donation forms were on each table and Dave asks members to turn their donation pledge into the Rotary office.
 
Rotarian/Speaker Chair Bruce Hale then presented the speaker for the day, David Horning.  David is a motivational speaker as well as a comedian and writer.
 
President Elect Amanda concluded the meeting by asking the members to take a moment as they are leaving and sign the cards for Gary Zink and Dean Wallace. She also reminded members to sign up for the McKinley/Massillon meeting as well as to take a flyer if they are interested in attending the Veteran ID meeting.
 
For anyone interested in a 2015 Oktoberfest t-shirt there are Medium, Large and XLarge available. There is no set dollar amount for this shirt; all that is asked is that you make a monetary contribution for however much you would like to give.
 
Next week's meeting will be the Endowment Fund recipients.
