MCKINLEY CHARACTER CHAMPIONS FOR APRIL ARE SAMANTHA AYERS AND ALEXANDER COX
During our meeting on April 22, 2016, Past President Tom Clevenger introduced the McKinley Character Champion Award Winner for April, Samantha Ayers.  Missing was award winner Alexander Cox.

McKinley High School Counselor, Victoria Phillips had this to say about the students:

Samantha Ayers: "sitting before me was a 15 year old girl and her mother my first year of counseling.  She was small in stature, quiet, and reserved but also boldly passionate.  They conveyed future ambitions and strategic academic plans and I knew I was going to work with someone special.  She insisted that sophomore social studies would not provide the challenge she was seeking and opted to take an AP Junior course.  With reservation she was permitted to take the more challenging course, and she proved that she was ready to face any challenge. Sam has not changed.  She is ambitious, responsible, and independent.  She aggressively pursues academic excellence and continues to make me proud daily."

Alexander Cox: "It is my esteemed pleasure to recognize Alex Cox for his exemplary display of character. He is an active member of Project Lead the Way Engineering Program.  Alex completed a rigours interview process to land a position with the local Timken Company.  Through the program he earned a position doing hands-on engineering work.  Alex works at the Timken Company from 6:30 - 10:30 a.m., is in school from 11 - 3:15 p.m., then goes to wrestling....everyday.  If Alex chooses to do so he has been given the option to attend Stark State College free of charge while being employed by The Timken Company upon high school graduation.  Alex holds a 3.9 cumulative GPA, currently enrolled in college credit courses, advanced placement courses, holds the Renesselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal Award for Outstanding Achievements in Math and Science, a member of the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society.  He is a true example of a devout hard-worker."
