On June 27, 2016, the Rotary office received the following "Thank You" letter from Heather, Scott, Jack, Allie & Leo Vignos on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
"Dear Members of the Canton Rotary: On behalf of my family and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, I would like to thank you for your generosity in helping to make the 16th Annual Canton Great Strides for Cystic Fibrosis a success. Great Strides is the largest national fundraising event for the CF Foundation. This year the Canton Great Strides brought in over $46,000 which will be used to invest in research to find better treatments and a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, fund CF Care Centers and for CF patient education.
With two of our children having Cystic Fibrosis, we experience this disease first hand, and no one would like a cure more than our family. Your support is helping us to get closer to that every single day. Your kindness is a huge part of the Great Strides being a success, and we want to let you know how much we appreciate your thoughtfulness."
In a letter dated June 16, 2016, David Truax, Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America, Buckeye Council, writes:
"Dear Paul, On behalf of the Buckeye Council, I would like to extend to you an invitation to visit our camp, Seven Ranges Scout Reservation, this summer during one of our seven week sessions. Seven Ranges Scout Reservation is located in Northern Carroll County, and encompasses nearly 900 acres of rolling hills, woods, meadows, lakes and ponds. "Reservation" is the proper term used to describe a large tract of land that has multiple camping facilities. On our Seven Ranges Scout Reservation, we have Camp Algonkin, Camp Calumet, Camp Akela and many other activity areas. More than 5,000 Scouts and Scouters attend our summer camp each summer where they have an opportunity to put into action the skills they have practiced year-round within their Troop.
We recently completed a $1.1 million expansion for our Dining Hall providing us the ability to accommodate the 800 (average) youth and adults who participate each week. Our summer camp program is designed to provide adventure, fun and activities that are promised to every boy that joins Scouting. Our Scouts arrive at camp on Sunday and depart Saturday morning beginning June 19th through August 6th.
If you are interested in visiting, contact Aaron Hensley at 330-580-4272 ext. 128 or Aaron.Hensley@scouting.org. Upon arrival, please check in at the administration building located idrectly off of the parking lot. If you wish to join us for lunch or dinner in the dining hall, the cost is $10.00 each."
Beginning THIS Friday, July 8, 2016, the weekly meetings will now be held at Meyer's Lake Ballroom CALYPSO ROOM. This is the middle room at the banquet facility.
We will still be receiving the same wonderful treatment we have always received from Meyer's Lake Ballroom and Mr. Mike's Catering staff, it is only the room site that will change. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
We are in DIRE need of a Host Family for our incoming Youth Exchange Student. This young man will be arriving from France in the month of August. Please consider opening your home up and supporting our Youth Exchange Program.
Please contact the Rotary office (330) 452-2882 or Chairwoman Amy Mustafaga (330) 760-4079 if you, or someone you know, is interested in hosting this individual.
On Friday, August 19, 2016, the Rotary Club of Canton will host its annual golf outing at The Sanctuary Golf Club located at 2017 Applegrove Street N.W., North Canton. Each year the outing brings more than 75 golfers together from many local Rotary Clubs to participate in a friendly competition, leaving only one Rotary Club with bragging rights for the next year. This is a great day to bring guests or prospective members to see what Rotary is all about and meet some of the great people that are involved with Rotary.
As in the past, the golf outing will take the place of our regularly-scheduled Friday meeting. This means all Canton Rotarians are welcome to come for lunch, even if they are not planning to golf. The cost for your lunch would be $13.00. We will be enjoying Old Carolina Barbecue at noon.
After lunch, those golfing will join their foursomes and participate in a scramble-format golf tournament. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in the scramble and for the longest drive, closest to the hole, and longest putt.
There will also be a putting contest, with the winner taking a BMW home for the weekend, courtesy of Cain BMW.
