Our weekly meetings will now be held at Meyer's Lake Ballroom CALYPSO ROOM. This is the middle room at the banquet facility.
We will still be receiving the same wonderful treatment we have always received from Meyer's Lake Ballroom and Mr. Mike's Catering staff, it is only the room site that will change. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Come hear fellow Canton Rotarian, Tim Shetzer, as he shares many interesting stories, facts and figures about the YMCA over the last century and a half. Tim will also show an historical video about the Y that begins with the leadership of William McKinley.
Tim Shetzer has been CEO for the YMCA's in Stark County, Ohio, since 1997. He previously worked at the Y's in Des Moines, Iowa, as well as overseas at the Jerusalem International YMCA. This year marks his 37th year of service to the YMCA movement. He graduated from the College of Wooster, and received his master’s degree from North Carolina State University.
The twelve Stark County YMCA community branches serve over 70,000 constituents every year through 1,000 different programs. Last year, over 12,000 youths and families requested and received financial assistance in order to participate in YMCA programs. The Y's mission is to encourage youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Tim has served as a board member of the Rotary Club of Canton, as well as a Past President of the Rotary Club. His wife Lynn is an ordained minister currently serving Reedurban Presbyterian Church in Perry Township. They have two grown children both living in the Cleveland area.
It has been an honor to serve as President of The Canton Rotary Club. In my wildest dreams I never thought I would attain this status when I joined Rotary. When you come to the end of any experience, there is always a mixture of emotions - relief that responsibilities are coming to an end, sadness that what you've come to enjoy will no longer be there for you. But also excitement - in taking what has been learned in the past year, and applying that to what is to come. And this year, I feel I have learned a lot.
Lesson #1 - The people! I can't begin to count the number of people I have met and become friends with. Most of these people would never have come into my life were it not for Rotary. Every person in this room, and all the people I have worked with this year have enriched my life. I have learned from you and worked with you. Thank You.
Lesson #2 - Giving back to our community. What a hard working club you are - and it has been recognized! The club has received the following awards this year:
Roland Luhman Best Community Project award for The Oktoberfest
Jack Maxwell award for the Best Bulletin/Newsletter
Jack Vogel Best Public Relations award
Bryce Kendall Best Club Avenue Project
During this past Rotary year our fund raisers have earned the club $37,566.99, The Avenue of Service Projects totaled $13,538.38 and the Endowment Fund provided $100,000.00 to The City of Canton's Market Square Project.
Lesson #3 - Gratitude. My thanks to each of you for your friendship, support and all the effort you put forth to further our club. Special thanks to Lauri and Barb for their help and guidance. They are the continuity and the glue that holds our club together. Thanks also to my wife Susan and extended family as they join me and work with me to support this club.
Lesson #4 - Innovation. As we look to the future and prepare for our next president, we need to look outside our club at the innovative things other clubs are doing and listen to our members as they suggest new and different events like the Oktoberfest. Our first ever Oktoberfest was our most profitable event this Rotary year. Sometimes new things are intimidating but, the Oktoberfest is our proof that sometimes change can be better.
I've said it before, but the real value of this club is its members - their skills, talents, personalities, and sense of fun and enjoyment. Thank you to you all.
Craig - All the best for the year ahead. You bring enthusiasm and a determination to build a better club, which I think are outstanding. You are going to have a fantastic year, and I"m looking forward to working alongside you to help make it all happen. So, the time has come and, with great pleasure, I now hand over the presidency to Craig Young, President of the prestigious Rotary Club of Canton, Ohio.

Dear Mr. Fettman, Thank you and your team of Rotary personnel, Zack, Robin, Jack, Dave, Frank and Virginia, for, once again, putting on a wonderful picnic for the Society. As always, the food was terrific and we cannot beat the service.
This picnic is a great joy for us and it is looked forward too every year. It is wonderful to have so many people who care about the Society. It is especially wonderful to have an organization like the Rotary do this picnic for the Philomatheon Society year after year.

On Friday, August 19, 2016, the Rotary Club of Canton will host its annual golf outing at The Sanctuary Golf Club located at 2017 Applegrove Street N.W., North Canton. Each year the outing brings more than 75 golfers together from many local Rotary Clubs to participate in a friendly competition, leaving only one Rotary Club with bragging rights for the next year. This is a great day to bring guests or prospective members to see what Rotary is all about and meet some of the great people that are involved with Rotary.
As in the past, the golf outing will take the place of our regularly-scheduled Friday meeting. This means all Canton Rotarians are welcome to come for lunch, even if they are not planning to golf. The cost for your lunch would be $13.00. We will be enjoying Old Carolina Barbecue at noon.
After lunch, those golfing will join their foursomes and participate in a scramble-format golf tournament. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in the scramble and for the longest drive, closest to the hole, and longest putt.
There will also be a putting contest, with the winner taking a BMW home for the weekend, courtesy of Cain BMW.
