SAVE THE DATE...JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT ROTARY BOWL-A-THON CHALLENGE ON SATURDAY MARCH 3, 2018
Save the date for Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 1-4 pm at Park Centre Lanes for the JA Bowl-A-Thon Rotary Challenge! Deadline to register is January 31, 2018.

Wouldn't you love to have fun with Rotarians from other clubs as well as raise money for an excellent cause, one that fits Rotary's missions of youth development and sharing vocations? If your answer is YES, then consider participating in the Junior Achievement Rotary Bowl-A-Thon Challenge! Teams of Rotarians will gather pledges to Junior Achievement from family, friends, co-workers, etc. The Rotary Team with the highest amount of pledges wins a $50 donation to their Rotary's Charitable or Scholarship Fund!

Perhaps more importantly, each Rotarian will get a chance to have some FUN with their fellow Rotarians by.....BOWLING! For a mere $10 entry fee, each bowler will receive a collectible t-shirt, three games of bowling, and bowling shoe rental. Plus, you will be able to participate in prize drawings and other games the day of the event. (For what it's worth, Park Centre Lanes does sell adult beverages for any Rotarians who might be so inclined).

Last year, Rotarians from the Canton, Jackson, and North Canton Clubs participated (with Canton taking home the trophy). We hope you will consider forming a team to compete on March 3rd. By the way, JA is hoping to have some Kiwanis teams there, too, so you can have some REAL bragging rights!

If you're not familiar with Junior Achievement, they are a non-profit that brings Financial Literacy, Work Readiness, and Entrepreneurship programs into the local schools, all taught by volunteers from the business and professional community (including many Rotarians). It is in this way that Rotarians can share knowledge of their vocation and professional life, and to aid in the development of our young people. JA programs are presented at no cost to the schools or students.

Information on the JA Rotary Bowling Challenge can be found at this LINK (including registration instructions). If you have ANY questions, please contact Rick Taylor at 330-575-2870 or at rtaylor@jaonline.org

Hope to see you on the lanes!

"THANK YOU" LETTER RECEIVED FROM PRINCIPAL SEDMOCK WITH ALLEN ELEMENTARY READING & MATH PREPARATORY SCHOOL REGARDING "PACK THE BUS" PROGRAM
The Rotary office received a "Thank You" letter from Mrs. Christen Sedmock, Principal of Allen Elementary Reading & Math Preparatory School. Mrs. Sedmock writes:

"Dear Canton Rotary, Words cannot express the gratitude for your generosity in sponsoring the “Stuff the School Bus” with non-perishable and canned food items event. I was truly taken back to see an entire Allen classroom filled with food! Due to your generosity, we were able to send two or three full boxes of food home with approximately 100 Allen, Belden, and Gibbs families. This food helped feed families over the winter break. Families were extremely grateful, as we delivered the items or they came to pick them up.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Allen Community, we are located in the southeast end of Canton with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast, lunch, and a daily snack. Students that attend our after school program also receive dinner at school. Without your contributions, many of our children may have gone without food over the winter break.

In addition to the food sent home over break, we were able to replenish our Allen food pantry. Our newly implemented food pantry allows us to send food home throughout the school year to families in need. Our food pantry also provides daily snacks to our 200+ students, to help feed their growing minds and bodies.

It does takes a village to raise a child. We are truly blessed to have so many people wrap around our students and our community! With Gratitude, Mrs. Christen Sedmock"
