FRIDAY'S MEETING WILL BE HELD IN THE BACK ROOM OF THE KRASSAS EVENT CENTER
DUE TO A PRIOR EVENT AT THE ALEX D. KRASSAS EVENT CENTER, THE ROTARY MEETING WILL BE HELD IN THE BACK ROOM! THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING IN THIS MATTER.
CHERYL WATT, PGA GOLF PROFESSIONAL FROM SKYLAND PINES GOLF CLUB, WILL SPEAK ON FRIDAY
Cheryl L. Watt
PGA Golf Professional
Skyland Pines Golf Club

Cheryl started playing golf at age fifteen.  She started playing competitive golf at age twenty-one, playing in State Amateur, USGA and mini tour events.  In 1985 Cheryl started working at Edgewood Golf Club.  Cheryl has been a member of the PGA of America for twenty-seven years.  In 1991, she was one of only three female PGA members in the state of Ohio.

This is Cheryl’s thirty-third year of helping hundreds of golfers improve their golf games.  Cheryl makes the game of golf fun for her students.  She puts a ton of energy into each lesson.  We are fortunate to learn how Cheryl has helped someone who has never picked up a club, how Cheryl can help an existing golfer make improvements to their game, and how she has developed star players.

PACK THE BUS RUN RUN RUN-RAISER
PACK THE BUS Run, Run, Run-Raiser going on now
Submitted by: Suzette Matthews

As you know, thousands of local kids are food insecure. Latest figures from the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank report that the food insecurity rate for children in Stark County is 22%. Kids in our own community desperately need our help, they need a basic necessity--food.

Like last April and December 2017, when you so graciously donated to help us raise $7,000+ (2017 total) to fill thousands of BAGS/BACKPACKS for our PACK THE BUS FOOD DRIVE for kids in our community in need, we are asking for your support once again.

Because this is an effort that is near and dear to our hearts, I (Suzette Matthews), am dedicating my MARATHON RUN (26.2 miles), on Sunday, April 29, 2018, to this Rotary effort and to the kids.

This is truly where we, as ROTARIANS, SHINE and can make a difference in our own community.

So, HERE’S THE SCOOP on how you can be part of this worthy cause:

On Friday, April 13, and again on April 20, simply place your cash donation in one of the yellow “Run, Run, Run-raiser” feed scoops going around at our weekly luncheon meeting. You may also submit your donation to the Rotary office by 4:00 pm, Friday, April 20, 2018.

Our PACK THE BUS GOAL is to raise $1,750 to provide 700 kids/backpacks to kids in our community.

On average $2.50 fills a backpack. For just $20, you can feed 8 kids/8 backpacks; $25 feeds 10 kids/10 backpacks; $50 feeds 20 kids/20 backpacks; $100 feeds 40 kids/40 backpacks.

Your donation helps put food in the mouths of those who need it most—our local kids who are food insecure.

I am honored to run for our Club and this worthy cause and will be thinking of you and the kids every step of the way.

THANK YOU in advance for putting SERVICE ABOVE SELF and for your support of our local kids and the Canton Rotary 2018 Run, Run, Raiser PACK THE BUS Food Drive. We truly appreciate your help, and even more importantly, the kids appreciate your help. Thank you, thank you!

DISTRICT GOVERNOR MIKE RAULIN NEEDS YOUR HELP!
The district conference is just 6 weeks away, and I need your help to recognize some of the great things that have been happening in your club. Specifically, we want to (1) celebrate those behind-the-scenes Rotarians who have contributed enormously to their club’s success, and (2) celebrate those newer Rotarians who clearly are passionate about Rotary and clearly destined to be outstanding Rotarians. We also want to have a little fun by celebrating some of the quirks of our members—quirks that we find endearing in people who are passionate about Rotary but do not take themselves too seriously. These Recognitions/Awards are each described in more detail below, and I have attached application forms for each.

I would like to ask that you take a little time over the next week to consider nominating one or more of your members for these awards:

(1) We also want to recognize up to half-a-dozen members as Unsung Heroes. These are people who do incredible things, often behind the scenes, that make your club run effectively. Many of them are only seen behind the scenes, but nonetheless deserve recognition. Follow this LINK to view or download form.

(2) We want to also recognize relatively new members for our Early Rotary Career Award. Please nominate members who hit the ground running as Rotarians and have quickly become essential members of your club. Follow this LINK to view or download form.

(3) Finally, we want to have some fun with our (appropriately named) Let’s Have Some Fun Award. These awards are meant to tease and embrace our members and their quirks, so please avoid any mean-spirited nominations. So maybe you have a member who (1) gets fined more often than your next three members combined, (2) always makes terrible jokes about everything, or (3) insists on wearing shorts in February in hopes that the weather will “catch up” with their outfit. For example, I have been teased about emails that are so long they have to be broken into chapters. Again, we do not want to laugh AT people; we want to laugh WITH them. Follow this LINK to view or download form.

Thank you so much for your help. We have an exciting program for you at the district conference, but we want to personalize it by recognizing deserving members. Please help us to do that this year.

Thank you.

Mike Raulin, District Governor (2017-2018)
