At our weekly meeting on August 5, 2016, President Craig Young welcomed the members and guests to the meeting.

PP Rick Taylor gave the invocation.

Vice President Michelle Mullaly welcomed the following guest to the meeting: Alan Gruber (guest of John DeWees).

The "Happy Bucks" news was then provided by the following Rotarians:
  • Mark Clendenin - was very happy to be back to Rotary after having missed several meetings;
  •
  • PDG/PP Bob Pattison - was very happy to announce that he and his wife, Janice, were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary;
  •
  • Becky Clark -  enjoyed announcing that her brother-in-law had been late for dinner 5 days in a row, so his wife informed him they would be having surf-n-turf and not to be late.  When he arrived home his wife served him bologna and a can of tuna!;
  •
  • Bruce Schorsten - said we should rejoice and be happy during the HOF weekend.  This event is a good economic boost to Canton and we should give thanks to David Baker;
  •
  • Richard Regula (Massillon) - stated that during the weekend Stark County would have the lowest sales tax in the State of Ohio and hoped everyone would spend money while they are here for the HOF Enshrinement Festival;
  •
  • Michelle Mullaly - was very happy to be away from the craziness of the HOF campus for an hour!
Rotarian Jim Molnar then took to the podium to announce a "Stuff the Can" fundraiser. This fundraiser was to help provide assistance to a CASA volunteer who's home burned down over the weekend.  She lives in Tuscarawas County but services Stark and Carroll Counties as a volunteer. (With generous support of our members, the Rotary Club of Canton raised $270.00 Friday to help this individual and her family. The generosity of our club exemplifies the Rotary motto "Service Above Self").

Rotarian Becky Clark was very pleased to introduce new member Chad Minor to the Club.  Also introducing a new member was President Craig Young, who introduced his son-in-law, Justin Candea.  *Please see stories above for more information on our newest members.

Golf Committee member Kurt Goodenberger reminded the members that if they have not signed up for the August 19th Golf Outing they should get their foursome (or personal reservation) into the Rotary office soon.  He also reminded the members it was not too late to become a "hole" sponsor or to donate a gift item for this event. *Please see above stories.

PP Rick Taylor once again announced the upcoming Canton Rotary/Junior Achievement "Career Connections" Projects.  There are two upcoming opportunities for Canton Rotarians to volunteer to mentor students in the Canton City Schools via JA.  The first is on August 30th and involves presenting the "JA Hire Me!" program to 9th, 10th & 11th graders at McKinley High School. The second program is on Friday, September 16th for 2nd graders at Allen Elementary School. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Rick at 330-575-2870 or rtaylor@jaonline.org.

Finally, August Speaker Chair Mark Rojek introduced Elizabeth Ibrahaim from SarahCare.  Mark thanked Elizabeth for stepping in on short notice to fill in for Merle Griff, who became ill and was unable to speak at the meeting.

President Craig concluded the meeting by informing everyone that District Governor Sieglinde Warren would be making her club visit on August 12th.  There will be a brief Board meeting for all Board/Trustees immediatley following next week's meeting with the District Governor.  Perfect Attendance will also be announced during next week's meeting.

The following Rotarians turned in a makeup during Friday's meeting: Paul Feaser (Jackson); Tom Sinclair (North Canton); Bob Matthews (Venice Nokomis, FL); PDG/PP Bob Pattison (Jackson); PP Dan Fuline (District Project Meeting).
