At our weekly meeting on December 14, 2018, President Michelle Mulally welcomed the 50 members and 28 guests to the meeting.
 
Rotarian David Schrade filled in for Rotarian Bill Liber to give the Invocation. (*Bill's daughter went into labor so he was unable to attend and give the invocation.)
 
Congratulation to PP Dan Fuline for having the winning 50/50 ticket, worth $57.00!
 
Our many guests were greeted by Vice President Drew Pelger who filled in for Secretary Suzette Matthews.  
 
The "Happy News" was provided by the following:
  • James Boggs - thanked the volunteers who helped raise $680 from the Salvation Army Bell ringing;
  •  
  • Richard Regula - to celebrate his son graduatiing from The Ohio State University and getting a job with Smuckers;
  •  
  • PP Paul White - happy that his staff could attend the holiday program;
  •  
  • Don Peterson - happy for the Mount Union football team who was playing in the Stagg Bowl;
  •  
  • Tim Franta - very grateful for receiving a sympathy card from his fellow Canton Rotarians when his mother passed away; he acknowledged how much it meant to him;
  •  
  • Dennis Dent - happy the sun was shining;
  •  
  • Bill Sparks - happy for Notre Dame football being in the CFB Playoffs;
  •  
  • Paul Hervey - happy that his oldest daughter was coming home from college;
  •  
  • Bruce Schorsten - was having a watch party at the Winking Lizard to watch the Mount Union football game.
 
Rotarian Mike Brown introduced the December Character Count students from McKinley Senior High School, Isaiah Shrake and Sarah Dubinsky. (*See story above)
 
Past President John Werren then took to the podium to present a Paul Harris Fellow to Joyce Yut, Director of the McKinley Presidential Library and Museum. (*Please see story above for more on this recognition.)
 
The President then introduced the newest member to the Rotary Club of Canton, Mike Paxos. (*See New Member story above);
 
The Holiday program began with a musical string trio from the Canton Symphony Orchestra. Featured on violin was Janice Moore, Tom Pleban on the viola and Michael Koscso on the cello. Everyone joined in singing holiday songs.
 
The meeting concluded with the following announcements:
 
  • thank you to December speaker chair Dave Schrade, greeter leader Frank Fleischer and attendance table volunteer Rob Roland;
  •  
  • a thank you went out to Past President Virginia Neutzling for providing homemade cookies for everyone;
  •  
  • this was the final meeting of 2018. The next Rotary meeting will be held on January 4, 2019;
  •  
  • the Rotary office will be closed from December 19, 2018 through January 2, 2019. Regular business hours will resume on Thursday, January 3, 2019.
