At our weekly meeting on Friday, September 22, 2017 President Amanda Tietze welcomed the 62 members and 6 guests to the meeting. President Amanda then thanked Rotarian Dale Holwick for providing ice cream for everyone to celebrate his 92nd birthday taking place on Sunday, September 24th.Rotarian Dennis Dent provided the Invocation.
Secretary Suzette Matthews welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Lisa Aurilio (speaker); Shelly Brown, Brian Hollingsworth (guests of PP Fritz Spring); Sara Baldoni (Youth Exchange Student); Latricia Buchanan (guest of PP Dan Matthews); Rich Dever (new member of PP Dan Matthews).
The "Happy Bucks" news was then provided by the following:
- Ashleigh Abrigg - in celebrating the fact that one of her children is now in driver's education;
- PDG/PP Bob Pattison - in thanks and celebration of the amazing Oktoberfest event on Thursday, September 21, 2017. Great job everyone!!
- Kim Kroh - to celebrate the Oktoberfest success and to let you know that there were 100 bratwursts left from the event that were donated to the Living Center. The Rotary Club of Canton was given a blessing by the priest for their thoughtfulness;
- Mark Clendenin - to celebrate having our Youth Exchange Student, Sarah Baldoni from Italy, in attendance. He also gave "kudos" to all those involved in the Oktoberfest;
- Dennis Dent - to celebrate the fact that he has now accomplished being a greeter and being an invocator. Now all he needs is to learn a bit more about Rotary from a seasoned Rotarian to become a Canton Rotary white badge (vs new member blue badge);
- Suzette Matthews - to celebrate President Amanda being back in attendance. Welcome back!
- Suzette Matthews also wanted to recognize and thank the amazing Canton Rotary Club duo of "doers" Lauri Coy and Barb Schrade. Our club could not do what we do without these two "i-beams" of our Club. Thanks ladies!
PP Dan Matthews then took to the podium to introduce the newest member to the Rotary Club of Canton, Rich Dever (*see story above)
Rotarian/Host Father Mark Clendenin then welcomed the Rotary Club of Canton's Youth Exchange Student for this year, Sarah Baldoni. Sarah comes to us from Italy and is now attending Jackson High School and participating on the Varsity Volleyball team there.
Vice President Mark Rojek welcomed the speaker for the day, Lisa Aurilio, from Akron Children's Hospital.
President Amanda then concluded the meeting with the following announcements:
- next week's speaker will be David Yost, State of Ohio Auditor;
- thanked Dale Holwick again for the ice cream;
- reminded everyone about the Pocket Park Project taking place the next morning from 8 am - 11:30 am.
The following Rotarians turned in a makeup during Friday's meeting: PP Dan Fuline (Military Family Advisory meeting); Jerry Ortman (Plain).
The following Executive Board/Trustees will receive a makeup for attending the Board meeting on Tuesday, September 19, 2017: Amanda Tietze (by telephone), President Elect Michelle Mullaly, Vice President Mark Rojek, Secretary Suzette Matthews, Treasurer Tom Clevenger, Sergeant-at-Arms Robert Matthews. Trustees were: Steve Fettman, Kurt Goodenberger, Bruce Schorsten, Bruce Hale, Drew Pelger, Don Peterson, Frank Fleischer, Bill Liber, Jeff Scott and Parliamentarian Bob Pattison.
