At our weekly meeting on Friday October 15, 2021, President Mark welcomed 36 Canton Rotarians (the number's growing!). After a rather lukewarm performance of the Star Spangled Banner and a rousing performance of the "Hello Song" (?), Secretary Paula provided the following: 
 

This day in history:

· 1878 - The Edison Electric Light Company began operations.

· 1917 – Exotic dancer, courtesan and spy, Mata Hari, was executed on this day for spying on Germany during WWI.

· 1924 – US President, Calvin Coolidge, declares the Statue of Liberty a national monument.

· 1951 – “I Love Lucy” debuts on CBS.

· 1966 – The US Department of Transportation was created.
