MCKINLEY STUDENTS COMPETE IN OUR 4-WAY TEST SPEECH CONTEST!

Please plan to attend the Canton Rotary 4 – Way Test Competition!

This Friday February 3rd, our annual 4-Way Test Speech Contest will take place between two McKinley Students, with the winner earning the right to represent Canton Rotary at District 6650 competition on April 1st at the Fairways Golf Club in N. Canton.

These students are extremely well-trained by long-time coach, Manuel Halkias, and their McKinley Speech and Debate Teams consistently place at or near the top in state, local, and regional competitions.

You do NOT want to miss this chance to see these top-quality teen speakers at this meeting!

BTW…. I will need 3 judges to score their presentations. Please let me know if you are interested in helping! Jeff Scott

Jeff Scott moved to Canton from Indianapolis in 1978 to apprentice for Gary Gerber and work in his Gary's Place salons. Jeff's professional background began as a stylist and soon developed into a hair color and cutting educator for Framesi USA and Clairol Logics as well as performing classes on Educational Cruise Seminars for five years. Jeff became manager of the salon chain in 1989 heading up education, hiring and training new staff members as well as customer service-related duties. TRINKETS & TRASH......ER, SWAG....NEEDED FOR RYLA GOODIE BAGS!

(Note from President Rick: Please see this note re: the RYLA Conference this year. Representatives from our two Interact Clubs will be participating and, as a club, we'd like to support this event. Please consider contributing any promotional material from you business if appropriate that you think a teenager might like. If you can do so, please let me or Jennie George know what you will be donating, so we can decide if we want to enhance the "goodies" out of our club budget. Thanks!)

As we reboot the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) Conference for 2023, we invite all Rotarians in District 6650 to contribute to the "Goody Bags" the students attending the conference will receive.  Our Goody Bags are not unlike the "swag bags" you may have received when attending a conference or event.

Our Goody Bags, though, are made up of items from Rotarians and their businesses.

What are we looking for?  Promotional items from your business for each participant!

Remember:
These bags are for 16-17 year olds.  They like pens and mechanical pencils, highlighters, post-it notes, key chains, small toys,  playing cards, Frisbees, fast food coupons, gum, candy bars, etc.
 - Please NO political giveaways.  We will not use them.

- Please NO CAFFEINE snacks or drinks.  We cannot distribute them for safety reasons.

- You will need 100 of any one item so every bag gets the same items.

- Since we assemble the bags before the students arrive, items must arrive before Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

Items should be delivered or mailed to:

CANTON ROTARY TO SPONSOR SYMPHONY'S "BOURBON & BLUES" FUNDRAISER

In an effort to increase our exposure in the Canton Community, our Rotary Club of Canton has decided to support some of the local Canton events with other organizations.

With that in mind, we will be helping to sponsor the Canton Symphony Orchestra's "Bourbon & Blues" fundraiser on February 27th at the Barrel Room in North Canton starting at 6:30.

There will be live music, raffles, a bourbon 'pull', and lots of fun!

JUST FOR LAUGHS - A NEW FEATURE!
This from Rotarian Lynn Hamilton.........

Lexophilia: Although not in the dictionary, it is reported that “Lexophilia” describes a person who loves sentences such as “You can tune a piano, but you can’t tuna fish” and “To write with a broken pencil is pointless”. An annual competition is held by the ‘New York Times’ to see who can create the best original lexophile.

We will be publishing a few examples every week (until we run out). You, our loyal readers, are welcome to submit your own to rickt@kozmosgrille.com!

Here you go.........

"I changed my iPod’s name to Titanic. It is syncing now."

"England has no kidney bank, but it does have a Liverpool."

"Haunted French pancakes give me the crepes."

"This girl today said she recognized me from the Vegetarians Club, but swear I’d swear I’ve never met herbivore."

Okay, now you should get the drift, so please send more if you have them...............Lynn Hamilton
