DECEMBER CHARACTER COUNT CHAMPS
During the meeting on December 14, 2018, Rotarian Mike Brown introduced the McKinley High School Character Champion Award winners for December, Sarah Dubinsky and Isaiah Shrake.

ISAIAH SHRAKE

Isaiah is a star student, and a great example of a scholar/athlete.  He plays football and baseball for the McKinley teams and has since 9th grade. He currently is taking College Credit Plus classes through Kent State University and Stark State College. Isaiah is in the top 10% of his graduating class.

He is a member of National Honor Society and Canton Scholars.

His plans after graduation are to attend Stark State to earn an Associate Degree in Business Administration.

Isaiah currently works at the Stark County Fairgrounds and has since he was 11 years old. He helps tend the horses, and feeds them as well as helping them to exercise them.

There is not a day that goes by that you do not see Isaiah in the weight room after school. He works hard on and off the field. He is a great young man, who encourages  and helps other students.

SARAH DUBINSKY

Sarah is a dynamic young lady, who has an energy and charm that fill a room. It has been a pleasure to watch her grow and mature over the past four years. Sarah leaves a legacy of excellence everywhere she goes. She is a very gifted actress and musician. She has been involved in several theater productions and her musical talents have been shared through the McKinley drumline, as well as show choir. Sarah finished the 2017-18 speech and debate season ranked second in the state for dramatic interpretation and ended up among the top 20 in the nation.

Her accomplishments don’t stop there. She has been a very valuable member of the McKinley softball team as well, serving as captain her junior year. She is not just a blessing to those of us at school, she also spends a great deal of time serving her community. Sarah has spent countless hours volunteering her time to work with children at First Friends Church and Zion Lutheran Church. She has managed to accomplish all of this while maintaining an impeccable academic record.

Upon her high school graduation in May, Sarah will be earning her Associate of Science degree and her Associate of Art degree from Stark State College. She will go on to pursue a degree in marine biology at the University of Tampa.

ANNUAL CHARITABLE FUND DRIVE NEARS YEAR-END
The annual Canton Rotary Charitable Fund (CRCF) drive is underway and donations are continuing to come in. However, time is now running out to take advantage of a charitable deduction for 2018.  In order to qualify, your donation must be received on or before December 31st!

Most of my communications about the CRCF have focused on the wonderful service programs the club is able to undertake because of the generosity of Rotarians.  So, I won’t repeat myself at this point in the campaign.  But please know that it is these types of community outreach efforts that reinforce our mission of “Service Above Self”.

For those of you who have not yet contributed, now is the time for all of us to give to this important part of our club.  We have several ways to give, including:  cash or check; credit card; the donation of appreciated securities; or qualified retirement distributions.  If you have any questions about the CRCG or some of the tax-advantaged ways to contribute, please give me a call.

Remember to act quickly and make this important contribution to our club before the year-end arrives!  Your gift at this wonderful time of the year will make an impact throughout the new year.
