George Sleigh was born in Gateshead, England. Graduated from Rutherford College of Technology in Newcastle, England with a degree in Naval Architecture and spent his career in ship design and shipbuilding related organizations.  Moved from England to Canada in 1961 and subsequently moved to Cleveland and then to New York where he worked for 20 years (including 10 years in the World Trade Center, where he was on 9/11/2001).

Worked for the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for 35 years, where his final responsibility was Manager of the Technical Consistency Department.  ABS is an organization that acts in maritime matters that relate directly to the safety of life and property at sea.

Retired in 2003, moved back to Ohio, lives in Hudson with his wife, Elaine, of 52 years.  They have 3 children and 11 grandchildren.
