George W. S. Hays is a retired public library administrator. He holds a B.A. degree in English and history from Mount Union College (OH) and a Master’s of Science in Library Science degree from Case Western Reserve University. He currently serves as executive director of United Way Services of Northern Columbiana County.
 
Hays is a member of numerous national, state and local professional associations and civic organizations. He is a program presenter and consultant in the areas of time, paper, OSHA and personnel management, productivity, policy development and library administration. He has been recognized by many associations for his leadership skills and commitment to service.
 
Rotary is an important part of Hays’ life. His mentor was the late PDG, RI Director and TRF Trustee Bryce W. Kendall, who exemplified “Service Above Self.” Hays joined the Rotary Club of Salem, Ohio in 1990 and served as President 1994-1995. He served as Treasurer 1995-2011 and as Rotary Foundation Chair 1997-2011. At the District 6650 level he served as Conference Co-Chair 2006-2007; RYLA District Chair 1998-2007 and as Vice Chair since 2007; Scholarships Chair 2008-2010; District Trainer 2009-2010; District Governor 2011-12; and District Rotary Foundation Committee Chair 2012-15. He currently serves as Assistant Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator for Zone 29.
 
Hays is committed to The Rotary Foundation. He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, a Major Donor, a Benefactor, and a Bequest Society Member. He has been honored with the Rotarian Vocation Award, The Rotary Foundation District Service Award, the Ten-Star Rotarian Award, and the Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service. Locally, Hays was an original incorporator of the Salem Rotary Foundation when it was founded in 1995 to further the work of the Salem club, and has served as president since its founding.
 
Hays is married to Susan, an active participant in Rotary activities who has more than thirty years experience in the social service agency administration. Daughter Sarah is licensed mental health counselor and lives in Cleveland, Ohio. Son George II was the district’s first exchange student to Slovakia. He is married to Jana from Spisska Nova Ves, Slovakia. They live in Prague, Czech Republic with their son, George III.
