WEEKLY MEETING NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

At our weekly meeting on February 17, 2017, President Craig Young welcomed the members and guests to the meeting.  President Craig asked everyone to keep former Canton Rotarian Gary Zink's family in their thoughts and prayers.  Gary was a long time active Rotarian who passed away on February 14, 2017.
 
Rotarian Mark Clendenin gave the Invocation.
 
Secretary Suzette Matthews welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Dr. David King, Susan Miller, Debbie Poland, Jill Singer, Chylece Head, Matthew Franta, Caroline McDermott, Scott Barwick, J'Rease Turner, Jennifer Shaw, Shalinda Roberts, Craig Gordon III, David Klicom, La'Ryaih Fields, Janet Duncan, Joseph Turner and Dennis Dent
 
The "Happy Buck" news was the provided by the following:
  • $1: Ernie Schott--in celebration of the anticipated warm weather for the weekend (i.e., time for ice cream!)

  • $2: Shawn Dougherty--in celebration of his youngest brother getting married this weekend and to promote the Canton Rotary Fellowship Night March 14th (fellowship at Desert Inn followed by a Canton Charge game). (*Please see story above)

  • $1: Mike Abbott--in celebration of his son who got the lead in the school play.

  • $1: PP Rick Taylor--in celebration of the start of Cleveland Indians Spring Training. (Editor's note: Thanks Chylece for paying my $1.00!)

  • $1 (+ $1 for Rick Taylor): Chylece Head--in celebration of her daughter, Stephanie Head, attaining a Leadership Scholarship for John Carroll University.

  • $5: PP Dan Matthews--in celebration of today's speaker and his friend, John Miller, and John's wife, Susan Miller, being in attendance; and for his company team members, Debbie Poland and Jill Singer, who were also attending Firday's meeting.

  • $5: Mike Rogers - in celebration of the nice weather coming our way.
Vice President Michelle Mullaly, with the assistance of Rotarian Shawn Dougherty, drew the FOURTH week of prizes for the "Unevent" Raffle. The final drawing for the Grand prizes will be drawn during the Fellowship outing at the Canton Brewing Company on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 5:30 pm. Rotarian Mike Brown took to the podium to introduce the January and February Character Count Champion Winners (*See story above)
 
PP Dan Matthews (sponsor) introduced the newest member, Scott Barwick, to the Rotary Club of Canton (*See story above for Scott's biography).
 
PP Dan then introduced his speaker for the meeting, John Miller, CEO of Superb Industries.  John spoke on "High Tech Manufacturing in Sugarcreek Ohio".
 
President Craig then concluded the meeting by thanking our speaker for his time and announced that next week's program will be the Four-Way Speech Contest. He reminded the members of the upcoming Fellowship Outing on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at the Canton Brewing Company.  The Grand prize raffle drawing will take place at 5:30 pm.
