WEEKLY MEETING NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

At our weekly meeting on Friday, August 11, 2017, President Elect Michelle Mullaly welcomed the 64 members and 5 guests to the meeting. Michelle asked the members to keep Rotarian Jim Lockshin's family in their thoughts and prayers. Jim passed away the previous week.  She also informed the members about Rotarian Dick Smith.  Dick was admitted into Aultman Woodlawn and is recovering from a stroke.
 
Rotarian Jon Adland gave the Invocation.
 
Vice President Mark Rojek welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Erin Tolin and Lindsay Gram (guests of Dan Spring); Jerry Frisch (guest of Jerry Ortman).
 
The "Happy Bucks" news was then provided by the following: 
  • Bruce Hale - he's pleased that there are a lot of Rotary projects underway and will have more info on the New Member Projects soon;
  •  
  • PP Rick Taylor - In memory of Rotarian Jim Lockshin who was Rick's original sponsor in Rotary;
  •  
  • Paul Feaser - he is very happy that his grandson is the #1 golfer on the Hudson golf team. His grandson is only a freshman;
  •  
  • Jon Adland - he is very happy to announce his daughter's impending marriage;
  •  
  • Mark Clendenin - his son and daugther-in-law moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, putting some Buckeye fans right in the heart of 'enemy territory';
  •  
  • PP Dan Matthews - he visited with Rotarian Dick Smith who is recovering from a stroke at Aultman Woodlawn. Dick would love to have his Rotary friends stop in to visit with him;
  •  
  • Vice President Mark Rojek - his son, Danny, is attending the University of Cincinatti on a scholarship.
President Elect Michelle Mullaly then informed the members about the arrival of our Youth Exchange Student on Thursday, August 17th. Sara Baldoni is arriving from Italy to the Cleveland Hopkins airport at 1:45 p.m. Her host family and fellow Rotarian Mark Clendenin and his family will be there to welcome her.  Mark would like to have his fellow Rotarians also in attendance to show this young lady the Rotary Club of Canton is very pleased to welcome her to the area.
 
PP Craig Young updated the members on the Pocket Park project, which is being done in conjunction with Habitat.
 
Rob Roland then came to the podium to bring the members up to date on the upcoming Oktoberfest being held on Thursday, September 21st. Rob stressed that many volunteers are needed, so that the project is a fun and successful event. 
 
Golf Committee Chairman Nick Perini then reminded everyone about the Annual Golf Outing which will take place next Friday, August 18th.  If you have not submitted your entry form you must do so immediately so a head count can be relayed to the golf course and so there is enough food available for everyone in attendance.  We are once again asking that every person playing golf MUST have payment made prior to the event.  You may contact the Rotary office and pay the $50.00 entry fee with your credit card.
 
PP Fritz Spring then introduced the speakers for the day's meeting, Laurie Stanbro and Bryce Custer from Ohio River Corridor Economic Development. Their topic of discussion was 'Economic Development along the Ohio River'.
 
President Elect Michelle Mullaly concluded the meeting with the following announcements:
  • there will be a brief Oktoberfest meeting immediately following the conclusion of today's luncheon meeting;
  • if you have not already done so, please sign the sympathy card for the Lockshin family, as well as the get well card for Rotarian Dick Smith;
  • stop and see Lauri/Barb to sign up and/or make payment for next week's golf outing;
  • next week's meeting will be the Annual Golf Outing held at the Sanctuary Golf Course located on Applegrove St., North Canton.
